Leila Laraque: Dans viktwa peyi m’

Depi lontan solèy la ap kabicha
Li lage kò l’ tou long dèyè do avadra, aloufa ak fo lwa
Ki lannuit kou jou kenbe tout yon nasyon nan fè nwa

Dòmi pa m’ nan refuze vini
Yon dra lobèy kole m’ nan yon ensomni
Je kale m’ bloke nan yon kochma

Lapè, lanmou, lajwa, tout lespwa ki te plante
Tout koupe Ayiti koutje
Tout jete yo, yo disparèt avèk solèy la

Kidnapping, korupsyon, dezunyon ak kolera
Tout sanble nan yon pil fatra
Sèvis dijyènn pa janm pase pran
Yon pil dekonb ak kadav
Kap dekonpoze m’, kap endispoze m’

Dekole kò w’ sou peyi m’, fout!
Koutpye, kout dan wap pran tout
Vle pa vle nap jwenn bout ou

Wa kite men nou rasanble
Wa kite pitimi ak lekòl pouse nan tout katye
Wa kite solèy mele ak rèv pou lumen wout tout ayisyen
Wa kite peyi m’ danse  nan yon viktwa vant plen
Yon kanaval kouleu ak kout ren

Leila Laraque was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. In her family, music was as important as air. Surrounded by artists (both her father and brother are musicians), she fell madly in love with art ever since she was in Kindergarten. From music to painting/drawing and poetry, she is fascinated by all types of soul expression. She had lived in Haiti, then in Montreal and is now evolving in New York. Although very attached to her Haitian roots, Leila enjoys mixing different colors in her poetry with a combination of Kreyòl, French and English. The artist is not following definite norms and rules in the structure of her poetry, choosing to focus on painting emotions and emotions alone with very few limitations. Raw passion, rage and despair are all impersonated through vivid images that dance in her flow.
